Supporting your mental health and wellbeing

Whether you're a medical student or Doctor in training, life can be stressful and even overwhelming. MDA National is here to not only protect your career and reputation, but also to support your health and wellbeing along the way.

As part of our continued support for students and doctors in training, we have partnered with AccessEAP to provide you with a complimentary series of health and wellbeing webinars and facilitated group sessions, focusing on mental health and wellbeing peer support.

Mindfulness

There is a growing body of evidence to support the application of mindfulness in the workplace. Some of the benefits include improved memory and concentration; calmer decision making; increased clarity of thought; deeper expression of compassion and empathy towards colleagues.

This session aims to provide participants with an understanding of the basic concept and underpinning principles of mindfulness, summarises the benefits of incorporating mindfulness practice into daily life, and takes you through some practical mindfulness exercises to apply at home and at work on a daily basis.

How can Positive Psychology help me at work?

Positive Psychology is the scientific study of human flourishing and an applied approach to optimal functioning. It has been defined as the study of the strengths and virtues that enable individuals, communities and organisations to thrive.

This topic is based around the PERMAH Model of positive psychology. Based on the famous work of Martin Seligman, this session is designed to help people learn how to flourish and identify their own strengths and development areas. Learners will be challenged to create a personal action plan and take a positive approach to their mental health and wellbeing.

Suitable for anyone who wants to seize opportunities to flourish and take away practical hints, tips and guidance that will make a genuine difference.

I’m heading towards burnout, what do I do?

This topic helps learners better understand the spectrum of stress and the importance of applying consistent self-care strategies to prevent burnout and fatigue through stressful times. Taking care of yourself, in context of your personal and professional life, is the most important part of managing your mental health and wellbeing. It is the key to help you get through challenging times and it is something within your control.

'Self-care to Prevent Burnout & Fatigue’ is for anyone keen to identify ways to thrive even when feeling overwhelmed and fatigued owing to their high-pressure role and also for anyone who wants to improve aspects of their self-care and learn practical hints, tips and guidance that will make a genuine difference to their wellbeing.
